DAIH, Bahrain, Jan. 26 (UPI) — Government forces in Bahrain clashed with people attending a funeral procession Thursday in the northern village of Daih, officials said. The violence broke out when government forces fired tear gas to disperse the large crowd, Iran’s government-backed Press TV reported.
Many people were arrested during the incident.
Demonstrators were gathered to mourn the deaths of four Bahrainis killed by regime forces in the past 24 hours.
A similar funeral was held in the village of Na’eem.
Anti-regime protests throughout Bahrain have been going on since February and have been met with force by the ruling al-Khalifa family, Press TV reported. Dozens of protesters have been killed in clashes with government forces.
